How to create Excel sheets with Claude

  1. Go to Claude.ai in your browser and log in to your account.

  2. If available, open Claude in Excel (or use Claude in chat and export results to Excel).

  3. Clearly describe what you want to build. Example:

    • “Create a monthly sales tracker for 2026.”

    • “Build a profit and loss statement template.”

    • “Generate a financial model with revenue projections.”

  4. Be specific about structure:

    • Columns (e.g., Date, Product, Revenue, Cost, Profit)

    • Formulas needed (e.g., SUM, IF, VLOOKUP, growth %)

    • Number of sheets (e.g., Dashboard, Raw Data, Summary)

  5. Ask Claude to format it properly for Excel (tables, headers, clean labels).

  6. If using Claude in Excel:

    • Let Claude generate or modify sheets directly.

    • Ask it to add pivot tables, charts, conditional formatting, or validation rules.

  7. If using Claude in chat:

    • Ask for output in CSV or structured table format.

    • Copy into Excel or download as a file if supported.

  8. Review formulas carefully. Double-check totals, calculations, and assumptions.

  9. Refine:

    • “Add a dashboard sheet with charts.”

    • “Make it investor-ready.”

    • “Add monthly growth % and cumulative totals.”

  10. Download or save your final Excel file.

That’s it. Most usable Excel templates can be generated in minutes if your instructions are clear. If something looks off, your prompt was likely too vague, add structure and be precise about formulas.
