Meta just shook up the AI ecosystem by announcing that, starting in January 2026, general-purpose AI chatbots won’t be allowed on the WhatsApp Business platform. This pivot targets big AI names and conversational startups alike.
Meta’s new policy bans AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Perplexity, Luzia, and Poke from operating broadly on WhatsApp.
The change strictly targets general-use AI assistants, not business-specific bots that handle support or transactions.
Companies using AI for customer service, bookings, or orders can still use the WhatsApp Business API.
Meta cited system burdens and a need to refocus on intended business uses, not as a host for mass-distributed chatbots.
The update follows Meta’s recent AI partnerships and infrastructure investments, highlighting rapid changes in the space.
Meta plans to automate 90% of privacy and risk checks with AI, speeding up product risk reviews across its platforms.
This shift pushes AI providers to re-evaluate distribution channels and align more closely with platform intent.
Personal Take: This is a platform war in action. Meta is flexing its ecosystem power, forcing competitors to play by its rules. It’s a classic strong-arm move: if you want access to Meta’s audience, you have to play inside their walled garden. It will be interesting to see how the other AI giants respond to this.

In this deeply insightful interview, Andrej Karpathy explores why true Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) remains at least a decade away and why our current approaches are “summoning ghosts” rather than replicating animal intelligence.
AGI is not imminent; progress will stretch across a decade of steady, non-magical advances, requiring continual breakthroughs in agent intelligence, multimodality, and long-term memory.
Today’s AI “agents” are impressive but lack real cognitive depth, true multimodal skills, continual learning, and genuine adaptability, with major deficits compared to human interns.
The journey of AI development has been marked by seismic shifts but also frequent over-prediction; most current models are still far from the deep reasoning and reliability required for full autonomy and economic impact.
Reinforcement learning is “terrible” for achieving real-world intelligence; humans and animals succeed by blending innate abilities, adaptation, and cultural transfer; LLMs instead imitate, creating “ghosts” that echo internet knowledge.
The true economic impact of AI, including AGI, will diffuse into society gradually, mirroring centuries of steady 2% GDP growth rather than causing sudden, explosive change; major jumps are not supported by historical evidence.
Self-driving technology exemplifies the “march of nines”; progress from demo to deployment is slow, demanding extremely high reliability, with many challenges still unsolved.
Future education will need AI tools as personalized tutors but remains far from matching human capability; Karpathy’s “Starfleet Academy” vision is to empower humans through better ramps to mastery, not just automation.
The greatest risk Karpathy sees is a gradual loss of understanding and control as superhuman AIs spread, shifting power and introducing new bottlenecks. Humans could be sidelined and disempowered if we’re not careful.
Personal Take: Unless we resist the seductive ease of ghostly “productivity,” we will be led by tools that can only remix, not rethink. Our greatest danger isn’t superintelligence; it’s superficiality. A civilization guided by agents that look smart but lack a soul.

A simple step-by-step tutorial to use formulas in Excel with Copilot’s formula completion feature
Make sure you’re using Excel for the web (US-English) or Windows Insider Beta with Copilot enabled.
Click any cell where you want your formula.
Type “=” (equals sign).
After typing “=”, Copilot will analyze your worksheet’s context, headers, nearby cells, and tables.
You’ll see a formula suggestion, a preview of its result, and a natural language explanation describing what the formula does.
Continue typing if you’re searching for a specific function (e.g., “=SUM…” or “=M…”). Copilot will update its suggestion in real time as you type additional characters.
If you don’t see a suggestion immediately, wait a few seconds for Copilot to generate options.
Click on the formula suggestion to accept and insert it into your cell.
You can edit or customize the formula as needed after insertion.
For best results, ensure your data has clear labels and organized headers. This helps Copilot understand context and give accurate formula suggestions.
If suggestions aren’t ideal, make your headers or adjacent cell descriptions clearer.
For more complex scenarios (like year-over-year calculations or dynamic arrays), Copilot can generate formulas matching your data structure.
That’s it! Copilot helps you write correct formulas quickly in Excel, letting you focus on insights instead of syntax. Try it out: Copilot in Excel
