OpenAI swapped out the engine inside ChatGPT — and you didn't have to do a thing.
GPT-5.5 Instant is now the new default model for ALL users — free and paid. No big announcement. It just happened.
Here's what changed:
🎯 Fewer wrong answers: 52.5% fewer hallucinations in sensitive topics like health, law, and finance
💬 Shorter responses: ~30% fewer words — no more long-winded replies to simple questions
🧠 Better memory: Remembers your past chats, files, and Gmail to give more personalised answers (Plus/Pro first, others soon)
👁️ See what it remembers: New "memory sources" feature shows exactly what context ChatGPT used — and you can delete or fix it
⏳ Old model still available: Paid users can keep GPT-5.3 Instant for 3 more months via settings
Bottom line: If you use ChatGPT for work — this is the most accurate version yet. Small upgrade on paper. Big deal in practice.

OpenAI and Microsoft have renegotiated their partnership and the big change is that OpenAI is no longer exclusively tied to Microsoft's cloud. Sam Altman announced the update directly on X, keeping it brief but the implications are significant.
Microsoft remains OpenAI's primary cloud partner, but OpenAI can now offer its products and services across any cloud platform not just Azure.
The partnership still runs deep, OpenAI will continue supplying Microsoft with models and products until 2032, and Microsoft gets a revenue share through 2030.
This means OpenAI can now work with AWS, Google Cloud, or any other provider without restriction opening up a much bigger market for their products.
For Microsoft, it's a shift from exclusive partner to preferred partner still significant, but no longer the only door into OpenAI's technology.
Personal Take: This is OpenAI quietly declaring more independence. Microsoft pumped billions into them when they needed it most now that OpenAI is more financially stable and eyeing an IPO, loosening that exclusivity makes sense. It's a natural evolution of the relationship, but it does shift the power dynamic. OpenAI gets more freedom. Microsoft still gets the revenue. Everyone calls it a win.
